When most textiles and factories moved overseas and the market for coal dried up, the thriving communities in central and southwest Virginia were destroyed. But that wasn’t the end of the story. Now as you drive through rural Virginia, you can see the innovation that’s working to restore these communities one-by-one.

Since 2014, Sam has been uplifting the work that is happening in rural communities and fighting for worker’s rights. With practices like restorative agriculture, building an eco-tourism market or increasing access to community-owned broadband, we can create a future where young people do not have to leave their hometown to find a good job.
